Motivational Interviewing
Feb 11, 2026 • 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Adaptive Leadership, Communications • Virtual Event
Offered by NMC Extended Education, this 4-part course will explore the foundations of Motivational Interviewing (M.I.), from its origins as a behavioral health approach to its present-day usage in an ever-widening array of fields, to effectively talk to people about changing in a way that harnesses the person’s own internal motivation to change.
After completing the 8-hour course, learners understand the flow of M.I., from learning to build strong initial engagement, all the way to helping someone plan for how they will implement their desired change. Learners will be equipped to use M.I.’s Person-Centered Skills, providing them with invaluable communication tools. All learners will have multiple opportunities to practice their M.I. skills, within the safety of our learning space. Additionally they will understand the fundamental strategy of M.I., using intentional responses to accelerate the individual’s own statements about, and movement towards, change.
